Frequently Asked Questions

What is chi.mp?

chi.mp stands for Content Hub & Identity Management Platform

  • Use your chi.mp site to collect, promote and connect the elements of your digital life in one place.
  • This includes displaying your contact information, biography, blogs, messaging tools, websites and content from services such as Twitter, Facebook and Flickr.
  • Automatically import tweets from Twitter, photos from Facebook and Flickr and just about anything with a RSS or Atom feed. Then you can easily promote your site by pushing updates to Twitter and Facebook.
  • With a pro account you can use the multiple profiles feature to keep selected information private or invite a select few to view more personal information.
  • Your chi.mp activity stream makes promoting your digital content easy!

What is .mp, what does it stand for?

.mp is the top-level domain (TLD) of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, a United States Commonwealth (CNMI). The .mp TLD works just like .com, .net and .org – the big difference is your .mp domain name is free for use with the chi.mp service.

What is OpenID?

OpenID is an open, decentralized user-authentication standard, which allows users to log onto many services with the same digital identity. Chi.mp is enabled with OpenID so you can replace all those pesky user names and passwords with your .mp domain name. You simply type in your domain (e.g. http://gib.mp) on OpenID enabled sites and the rest is easy. No more trying to remember which user name and password goes with which site. With OpenID, your chi.mp domain name is your universal login across the Web.

OpenID is being rapidly adopted as a standard across the Web – millions of sites are already using it. Get OpenID

Is the chi.mp service really free?

Yes, the basic chi.mp service, including your own .mp domain name, is free! You may also upgrade to chi.mp Pro if you would like even more control over your chi.mp domain, including the ability to create subdomains for either alternate profiles or for forwarding to other web sites as well as Google Apps support so you can have email delivered to your Google Apps account. If you decide that you want complete control over your .mp domain, or if you want to use your domain for commercial purposes, you can always purchase it for $20 USD per year at http://get.mp or through your Settings menu on your site.

How does chi.mp work?

It’s your very own web site on your very own domain name (e.g. http://anthony.mp). You are in control – this is not the case in typical social networks where you and your content are trapped in a walled garden and controlled by someone else.

The chi.mp systems and your chi.mp site is hosted on Amazon’s EC2, a robust hosting environment.

Can I get more than one domain?

chi.mp is for personal use and you are allowed to have one free .mp domain and chi.mp site. If you’d like to purchase additional .mp domains, go to get.mp and purchase as many as you would like!
